What is Praise?
Praise is the demonstration to someone of honor. When you
praise someone, you are giving them honor. Praise is a temporary
thing, given during specific times to honor.
What is Worship?
Worship is the giving up of one’s self to something.
To make that one thing the center of your existence, and to
live in a way that will honor it. Worship is not a one-time
thing it is a lifestyle. When we say we worship God, we are
saying that we are living in a way that shows honor to Him,
and glorifies Him.
How do they fit?
Praise and worship fit together nicely, but are not the same
thing, and should never be confused. You can praise without
worship, but you cannot worship without praise. Worship is a
lifestyle, while praise is an event. King David is a great example
of both. He led a lifestyle of worship (God called him a man
after His own heart) and also praised (just read the book of
Psalms!). His life was the worship, while the songs he wrote
offered praise. Now, God isn’t expecting you to write
songs about Him, but He does want you to praise Him, but even
more to worship Him, giving yourself over completely.
